Honest review – Bigrock hosting review
Since about a year ago, I decided to start my own website. But then I just didn’t have any expertise in that. I decided to use the services of a web host. I was researching about the different web hosting service providers in the world, especially in India, that I came across this bigrock.in web hosting services provider.
BigRock is currently the biggest web hosting company in India, it is a part of the Directi group which is founded by Bhavin Turakhia. It is an accredited ICANN registrar to small businesses, professionals and individuals which gives their services credibility. BigRock not only provides web hosting, but also domain name registration, website design and building services, email hosting, shared web hosting, virtual servers, cloud servers, reseller hosting, and dedicated servers to other online applications.
I decided to use the services of this Bigrock. Now it has been almost a year with them, and fairly enough, it has been good, like really good experience with them. But still, I have to say, while making a website is a tough task in itself, then finalizing the right web hosting service is also a daunting task for anyone; especially an amateur. So here I present my reviews on this web host, hopefully very useful for the newbies.
The fact that BigRock is a top web hosting service in India, used by a majority of Indian website owners, and also recommended by them, says a lot about it, that there will be more Pros than the Cons of this web host. Indeed it is true. First thing first, they have a really wide range of plans for their wide range of services. With 3 shared hosting plans, 4 WordPress hosting plans, 4 VPS hosting plans, 4 dedicated Linux hosting plans, and 4 dedicated Windows hosting plans. Hence the cheapest plan in each category is really affordable and low cost. The most cheapest plan is that of shared hosting, starting at Rs59/month. We can also get customized plans.
They promise an up-time of 99.9% and almost all the time they give it, at times also exceeding that limit, going up to 100%. they also have an inbuilt DIY website builder software in them. I used it since I found its UI to be very easy. A support script gets automatically installed too. The website really runs fast. I tested on pingdom, and it shown literally 0% downtime. Yeah, a common thing, we get a free email with each domain.
We can choose between auto or manual renewal of the plans. And can set regular reminders for that too. Apart from the shared hosting, we get to choose our CPanel. The humble and honest people that they are, if ever my site was down, thats a couple of times in few months, they immediately notified me about that. They provide so many languages support, the windows ones are, PHP v5, ASP, and ASP.NET v3.5. the Linux ones are, PHP v5, PERL, Python, and CGI.
The control panels used are, the popular cPanel in the Linux server accounts, while the windows server accounts, which I use, uses the Plesk. Although I would have loved to use and preferred the cPanel over the Plesk. The relational database management systems supported are, MySSQL, MSSQL, Access. Even their hardware is impressive I heard, with Dual Quad core Xeon processors, a whopping 24GB ram. Isn’t that amazing. Except VPS, there is also a 30 days money-back guarantee. We get Unlimited bandwidth, of course as like other web hosts. The hard-disk space we get in the range of 200, 100, 50, 40 GB for the Linux. And for the Windows we get 100, 50, 25, 10 GB of range for our storage. We also need not to worry about any payments, they offer many payment options for us, a very useful thing for me, personally. One thing I liked is that we get Google Ad-words credits too.
I got certain apps already included in, like blogs (b2evolution, 1 click WordPress install), web portals and CMS (Drupal, Joomla), Photo galleries ( 4 image galleries), Shopping cart ( ssCommerce, CubeCart), message forums (phpBB), wiki (phpWiki, mediawiki), Polls and surveys (phpsurveyor, Advanced Poll). all of them for free. They also offer other services, apps like CodeGuard, SiteLock, Digicerts & SSL, DesignXchange programs, Dedicated servers, Domain name transfers, Domain name registrations. I have generally found their services to be trustworthy, secure, and really fast. For those who want plans above the basic, and cant afford, then there is always the availability of BigRock discount coupons.
Nevertheless, nothing in this world is totally perfect, there are drawbacks of everything. Still its subjective, depends on the customers, their types of plans, websites etc whether any Cons or not, and how much. For some people the Cons of others can be Pros too and vice versa. Here about BigRock I found 2 Cons, surely a majority of people would be having those.
A big thing from my experience is that, they promise 24×7 Tech Support, live chat, phone, email etc but in reality that’s not the case, most other people have also complained that it is actually only till 8pm IST that their support stops, after that no one is there to answer our calls or solve our queries. Seriously, once I had a bitter experience about that, now I have accepted that shortcoming of them. Another point I feel can be a shortcoming is that their servers are located in the USA, although most web hosts have that facility and one way its really good, still more time is spend to retrive the ordered site page by a person in India, since the physical distance is more. Whereas if the servers were in India, the site will load more faster.
Anyways, as I said, all it is subjective, my review can only be helpful, in the end you have to take the final decision about selecting the right host for you. Whether you are an experienced website owner who’s tired of his web host, and is looking for a change or a newbie blogger who wants to start his website with the most reliable hosting provider, BigRock is the place to go! I say, it is recommended to all.
