Honest review – Siteground hosting review

Since the advent of the Internet, the world is becoming more and more virtual, the number of websites is increasing, to the extent that almost any person can start his/her website, and even a person with very little or no knowledge to build a website is becoming ambitious.

This is partly due to the fact that, now web hosting services have come into the picture, and increasing by the day, as their future is bright. A web hosting service, is typically an Internet hosting service, which helps the Organizations/Individuals in making their website accessible to the world via the Worldwide Web on their servers, besides other optional tasks like providing storage space for the website content, maintaining the site and its security etc for a fixed monthly fee.

One such web host is siteground.com , it was started in 2004, and is now one of the leading, and fastest growing hosting company of the world. They provide shared, cloud hosting; & dedicated servers. It is recommended by so many on the thousands of blogs and forums, including the wordpress.org team, the largest Content Management System (CMS) in the world; & that’s how I got to know about it & have been using it since the last one year. My overall, in-general experience with it has been real good. Following is my honest Siteground hosting review divided in pros and
cons..

Pros
1. A very high Up-time.
SiteGround consistently gives us an up-time of 99.999% sometimes hitting even 100%. this is so impressive if you consider that the global average of up-time is 99.900%.

2. Speed and performance.
SiteGround has 5 major data centers in the world – London, Amsterdam, Milan, Chicago, Singapore. This is an amazing USP of this web host, allowing them to load pages faster than the average, and also very consistent in that. Even any regional website in Asia works best with SiteGround.

3. Simple UI & feature sets.
The most popular web hosting Dashboard, cPanel, is used by SiteGround. This makes it easier for anybody to use and manage their account here. They do daily backups, which is amazing, in case your own backups fail. Plus they have Unlimited email accounts and databases.

4. Free SSL certificate, PHP 7 support.
An SSL certificate is a very important feature to have, I say a must one. It is one big need to eliminate any spamming and make people trust in your website. And SiteGround offers it for free! They do it using LetsEncrypt, and its enabled via default. They also now use PHP 7 while most other web hosts are still on PHP 5.6. Know the difference that your website performance will almost double with PHP 7 as compared to PHP 5.6.

5. Free Security Add-ons and Supercacher.
Apart from the basic security with their WordPress managed solutions, SiteGround offers more extra for sites of all shapes and sizes. Some of the tools they have are, Hotlink protection, Leech protect, IP address block list, SpamAssasin, SpamExperts. They also offer their own in-house technology called Supercacher, which adds several layers of caching and your site will load faster than before.

6. Free Domain name & Money back guarantee.
All the 3 plans of SiteGround gives a free domain name. Along with unlimited Data transfer. And the thing I liked the most about SiteGround is their 30-day money back guarantee. Good to try-out this web host without any worries, right.Web Hosting

7. Free Website migration.
If you look at the fact that almost all other web hosts charge you around $49-$149 if you want to migrate your website to them, SiteGround offers it for free. There creeps in some cheapness and money saving, no.

8. Customer Support.
According to my experience and also based on many other people’s reviews, this is their biggest USP. Really, on SiteGround you get your Tickets reply on an average of 10 minutes flat. Not to forget that their agents are very friendly and highly knowledgeable.

Cons
I would like to add an important thing here, in the end it depends on your website, the type, kind of content, target public etc that which web host is best for you, its all subjective. For some people one of the con can be a pro, or vice versa too.

1. Pricing.
They have 3 types of Shared hosting plans,
a. StartUp, $9.95/mo
b. GrowBig, $14.95/mo
c. GoGeek, $29.95/mo.
although these initial sign-up rates are at par with the other web hosts, their standard renewal pricing is expensive as compared to others, especially for the startUp plans. They also charge a one time setup fee of 14.95$ for month-to-month plans.Having said that there is also a 60% discount on all these plans available.

2. Storage.
Again, this is subjective. The StartUp plan gives 10gb of storage space, the GrowBig gives 20gb of storage, and the GoGeek gives 30gb of storage space. This is low as compared to the other web hosts. Sometimes even this much space is sufficient, especially for the blogs. You can anytime upgrade your plan. As a helpful note, they also indicate how many monthly visitors you can safely handle on these storage spaces, without any issues.

3. WordPress plugin.
They give a one click WordPress installation. Auto managed WordPress hosting. But it installs a slightly customised version of WordPress. For noobs, this is unmanageable, highly confusing and risky from the security point of view too.

Conclusion:-
To conclude about the SiteGround web host, and as per my experience with them, I will say that this web host is recommended to all. Its truly advantageous to be an independent web hosting service than to be a subsidiary of a larger organization, like most other web hosts are. Plus these many free add-ons, we don’t get anywhere else actually. They truly have a solid product and a great support. Very Honest, Transparent in all their dealings and promises. Just go for it would be my total recommendation.
